Sammy vows to defend PSL title in Karachi

KARACHI: The skipper of the Peshawar Zalmi, Darren Sammy has said the charged atmosphere in Lahore, at the PSL final last year, is still fresh in his memory and he is looking forward to lifting the cup for second time around as well.

“We are not underestimating any team but I have made it clear to all the players that Zalmi would be unstoppable if we play our brand of cricket”, Sammy said in a video message prior to his departure in Dubai, for the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The third edition of the PSL will commence from February 22nd with an encounter between Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans in Dubai.

Peshawar Zalmi won the last edition of the PSL by beating Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.

“The scenes at the Gaddafi stadium are still fresh in my memory. I along with other team mates still cherish our part to bring back international cricket to Pakistan”, Sammy said

Media partnership deal between Peshawar Zalmi and PTV signed

Islamabad – Champion of Pakistan Super LEague (PSL) franchise and the defending champions, Peshawer Zalmi, has signed an agreement of Media partnership with Pakistan’s largest and state owned Pakistan television network (PTV).

The MOU was signed at PTV headquarters located in Islamabad during the meeting of Peshawar Zalmi’s chairman, Javed Afridi and Secretary of Minister of Information, Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera. Peshawar Zalmi cricket matches will be broadcast on PTV Sports, PTV News, PTV World and PTV Home.

Javed Afridi also said and that we are very glad to be associated with Pakistan’s no. 1 and a cardinal television network.

Peshawar: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Champion Peshawar Zalmi would like to clarify that we have cleared all our payments with PCB within time and at the moment all our energies are focused towards  defending the title, says a spokesman of the franchise

Recent reports in media suggest that some franchises have failed to clear their dues with PCB. Peshawar Zalmi would like to clarify that we on our part have cleared all the necessary fees and payments (including taxes) with PCB and no payments remain in balance.

Peshawar Zalmi firmly believe that Pakistan Super League is the country’s biggest sports brand. We will continue with our efforts in not only supporting  this mega event but also  bringing back cricket to Pakistan.

Karachi – Pakistan Super League (PSL) Champions Peshawar Zalmi announced schedule of his own T20 League “Global Zalmi League”, Kashmir zalmi and fifteen other foreign teams will be in the event, Action will begin on eleven February. Each team will also include two youth players from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.

The Peshawar-based Zalmi fans and talented cricketers will gather themselves together under Zalmai’s banner, show their skills. They organized Zalmai World Cup consisting of ten foreign zalmai teams last year in UAE.

The League will share zalmi teams of the sixteen countries from all over the world. LAHORE: Multan Sultans – the sixth franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) — announced that star all-rounder Shoaib Malik would be the team’s captain, along with former Pakistan test cricketer Nadeem Khan as team manager.

Right-handed opening specialist batsmen Mohammad Wasim has been appointed to take charge as the team’s batting mentor with former Proteas skipper Johan Botha joining the team as assistant coach.

And to ensure supreme healthcare for the players, former Indian cricket team’s physiotherapist Andrew Leipus, who is currently also serving as Kolkata Knight Riders’ physiotherapist in the Indian Premier LeagShoaib Malik PSL Multan Sultanue (IPL), also joins the star-studded coaching panel as physiotherapist for Multan Sultans during the third edition of the PSL.

Commenting on the appointment of Shoaib Malik as the skipper, Wasim Akram, director cricket of Multan Sultans, said, “Shoaib has been in the form of his life, and the rich experience that he possesses after featuring in almost every global T20 league, makes him the best choice to lead the unit.”

Former right-handed stylish opening batsmen, Mohammad Wasim, who will take the charge as batting mentor for Multan Sultans, has been in the news for his noticeable contribution to the local cricket talent, courtesy of his own cricket academy, the Mohammad Wasim Cricket Academy (MWCA), where he has been resolute in nurturing the young talent which the country possesses.

The induction of Proteas expertise in form of former South African skipper is noticeable, as Johan Botha also has had a taste of the PSL with his previous stint with Islamabad United in the second edition of PSL.

The addition of former test cricket Nadeem Khan as team manager will add uniformity to the team, as he is known for his cool and calm style.

The franchise also adds Yasir Malik as the team’s strength and conditioning coach, who has been serving in the same capacity for the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

“The addition of Mohammad Wasim and Johan Botha to the coaching staff under the tutelage of our Head Coach Tom Moody reflects the strength of our coaching pool, while Nadeem Khan’s expertise within the capacity of the team’s manager is welcoming,” said Asher Schon, president of Multan Sultans.

PSL Franchise must clear Dues or Sell Shares before 31st July, PCB

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given a deadline of July 31 to a franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to clear its dues or face the ignominy of having its shares sold out before the second edition.

During the meeting of the PSL governing council in Lahore this week it emerged that a franchise, which reached the semi-finals of the first edition in February, had failed to submit its guarantee amount to the board.

“The owners have now been given a deadline of July 31 to submit the guarantee money or their shares will be put up for sale to recover the money,” one PSL council source said.

Najam Sethi, who heads the PSL governing council, announced that interest in the league had gone beyond expectations and efforts were being made to include more high profile foreign players in the second edition.

“We have managed to contract Brendon McCullum and Eoin Morgan for the second edition and they are proven international stars who will not only bring vast international experience but a wealth of invaluable leadership experience to the PSL,” Sethi said.

“While we have announced only these two names there are at least a dozen additional top-level signings that will be revealed in the coming days.”

Sethi promised at the governing council meeting that the second edition of the PSL in February 2017 would be bigger and better.

He said efforts would be made to have the PSL final either at Lahore or Karachi and much would depend on the foreign signings.

In the first edition Shane Watson, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kevin Pietersen, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib ul Hasan were among the top foreign signings.

It was also announced after the council meeting that the Karachi, Lahore and Quetta franchises had agreed to invest and get involved in their respective regions in domestic cricket.

Cricket: No big changes in Peshawar Zalmi’s squad for PSL 2

Peshawar, Pakistan, 1st July 2016: One of Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) five teams, Peshawar Zalmi, on Friday announced they will retain most of their playing line-up during PSL’s second season.

“We will retain Shahid Afridi, Darren Sammy, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, Tamim Iqbal, Shaun Tait, Hassan and Asghar,” said Peshawar Zalmi’s owner, Javed Afridi, while talking to DawnNews.

Afridi added that all other players will be either traded or transferred. The PSL team is also reported to be in contact with South African Quinton de Kock and England’s Jason Roy for the upcoming second season of PSL.

Earlier, Zalmi’s captain Shahid Afridi, hinted at his differences with the Peshawar Zalmi owner, Javed Afridi.

It was reported Quetta Gladiators plan to play a couple of T20 matches against Peshawar Zalmi in England during the national side’s tour of British Isles later this summer.

Peshawar Zalmi’s owner Javed Afridi had welcomed Gladiator’s offer.

Despite being the runner-ups, Zalmi put up a phenomenal show in the inaugural edition of PSL earlier this year.
